New Meetinghouse Project

Fall 2017

Dear Friends,

We wanted to share news that this spring, Columbia Friends Meeting purchased a lot in central Columbia, with plans to build a new meetinghouse. The lot is located across the street from Russell Elementary School on Rollins Road, roughly in the center of Columbia. It is just under an acre and is lightly wooded.

Meeting was blessed with support from our larger community of Friends that allowed us to make a downpayment on the lot and take the first step toward this goal. Moving to the new location will allow us to:

  • Strengthen our commitment to peace and social justice through connecting to local groups with a similar vision.
  • Promote equality through improved accessibility in our building and our geographic location.
  • Become an example of sustainability through the construction of an earth-friendly meetinghouse.
  • Design a simple structure that can be shared as a resource in the community, as well as meet the needs of our meeting.
  • Increase our visibility to young families and students.
  • Help develop an adjacent community garden.

Please consider donating, with one of the three options below. Columbia Friends Meeting is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. Donations are deductible as charitable contributions.

In the Light and with much gratitude,

The Long Range Planning Committee
Columbia Friends Meeting
